I've loved all the books in these two series with the characters but the Ward Security series has been my favorite. Rowe and Noah are such a great pair. This latest entry, Wicked Outlaw, despite the terrific cover, was a disappointment to me. I liked both Cole and JB and thought they were good together, although I thought the love scenes a little too insta love, especially with someone who thought he was straight. There was a distinct lack of "holy crap, what have I done and what am I feeling?" All the supporting characters were pretty fun except JB's mother, who I thought needlessly cruel. The biggest problem I had with this story was the tired trope. I've read different versions of the bad guy wanting the ranch, farm, etc., in so many other books. This was one of the better versions but still too familiar and irritating. Plus, he apparently wasn't punished! I know these authors can do better and I hope there's another book in this series. I was so excited to get back to the Ward Security crew! Rowe and all the others are always a pure pleasure to "meet".This story, thanks to the ranch location, has a different feel and pace compared to previous books, but I liked it just the same. Cole was a surprising character for me and I'm really glad that he got his book with JB of all characters! Their story is sweet, the angst is very moderate and not highlighted very much, making it a relatively laid back book. There is a bit of an action plot and we get to see the guys in full ambush glory again, but it was not the focus of the book for me.I liked the development of Cole and JB's relationship and the ease with which they grew close from the get go. The Texas ranch scenery was perfect for it!All in all, a great addition to the series!
