“Where the Forest Meets the Stars” is a love story of the most unique proportions. Two wounded adults and an extremely intelligent child are drawn together in a fresh and fanciful story that will have you cheering for the geeks. This is not a sci-fi book but a child’s attempt to deal with a life that is far too painful for her young years.Glenda Vanderah has created characters that are fully developed and interact flawlessly as participants in this fast moving story. They fuss and struggle and learn to love each other with ferocity in the midst of trying to ascertain the truth of the youngsters travail. This is a unique story and in all the thousands of books I’ve read, there’s not been anything else like it. This is special and you’ll be effected. If there were a second volume, I’d be happy to reconnect with these folks. The story is dialogue driven and the dialogue is magical. I laughed out loud many times as the pages flew by. There are no issues with gratuitous violence or sexual content and just a few f-bombs that were totally unnecessary. In fact, they were the only expletives on one page; absurd. That issue aside, this book is worth every one of those 5* and then some. Bravo, Ms. Vanderah! I do recognize I am in the minority with this ranking and review. Quite honestly, I have never read a book with such high reviews that I have felt this poorly about. I don't really understand the high reviews (unless the author has lots of family and friends willing to buy the book and submit glowing reviews), although I do recognize that everyone has different preferences in regard to stories and books. This book did nothing for me. The story line was very trite. It struck me as a huge cliché with (maybe) an alien twist thrown into the middle of it in an effort to disguise the cliché.And the writing was just so incredibly bad in places. Not so much at the beginning of the book as toward the middle, and definitely at the end, when it turned amazingly simplistic. Example: "Jo rolled the table away and sat on the edge of the bed. Gabe pulled over a chair. Jo held Ursa's hand." Yes, that is an actual paragraph. Or how about this . . . "After breakfast they bought Ursa colored pencils and art paper and Jo purchased a new cell phone. Jo walked Gabe to the parking garage. He gave Jo his two room keys." Very amateurish writing.Overall, not a good book. I did finish it, but I did not really enjoy it and can't recommend it. At least I didn't have to PAY for it - thanks Amazon First!
